Not legal advice. This map is a free reference tool for general information. Using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. The boundaries are compiled from public sources, may contain errors or become out of date, and are not a survey.
Sources.
- District and division membership: 28 U.S.C. §§ 81–131; for Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands, 48 U.S.C. §§ 1424, 1821 and 1611. Checked .
- County boundaries: U.S. Census Bureau, TIGER/Line 2024. This product uses Census Bureau data but is not endorsed or certified by the Census Bureau.
Divisions. Only divisions created by statute are shown. Many courts also divide their work by local rule or general order (for example, N.D. Cal. or D. Ariz.), and those assignments are not on this map.
Places that do not follow county lines. The Fort Bragg reservation, Camp Mackall and the Butner FCI are in E.D.N.C.; the Montana and Idaho parts of Yellowstone National Park are in D. Wyo.; some districts share jurisdiction over waters. The map shows a warning in the affected counties.
Virginia cities. Under 28 U.S.C. § 127(c), each independent city is placed with the district of the county it lies within or was formed from.
